FISCHER HALL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"pp-slideshow-1424013756\" class=\"pp-slideshow-placeholder pp-gallery-placeholder slideshow-1424013756 mceItem\" style=\"display: none;\" src=\"https:\/\/focusonthebackroads.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/p4\/placeholders\/slideshow-placeholder-1424013756.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>Fischer, Texas was established in the 1850&#8217;s as a supply center on a section of road, known as the Devil&#8217;s Backbone,\u00a0between Blanco and San Marcos. \u00a0Hermann Fischer in 1853,\u00a0built a log trading post, know as, Fischer&#8217;s Store, \u00a0to serve the local communities and folks traveling through the area. \u00a0The Potters Creek School, the first in Fischer was built in 1875 and a year later the Fischer&#8217;s Store post office was established. \u00a0Later the building also contained the local bank and saloon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fischer Dance Hall<\/strong> was built in 1895 and continues to be operated by descendants of the original family who built it. \u00a0Like many of the community halls that were built in Texas during this period <strong>Fischer Dance Hall<\/strong> was the social and civic center of the town. \u00a0The interior of the hall is amazing with beautiful old hand-hewn beams and rafters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fischer Dance Hall<\/strong> has been featured in many movies, including \u00a0Willie Nelson&#8217;s movie Honeysuckle Rose.<\/p>\n<p>Next door to the hall is the bowling alley where on Fridays folks still enjoy an old traditional german game of &#8220;9-pins. \u00a0This building was originally a small school house.<\/p>\n<p>When visiting the Texas Hill Country, Fischer, Texas is a must. \u00a0This community has changed little in the past 160 years. \u00a0The Fischer&#8217;s Store has reopened, Wednesday through Sunday afternoons &#8211; no telling what Texas treasures you will find there during your visit.<\/p>\n<p>Just up the road from the store be sure and visit the <strong>Fischer Dance Hall<\/strong>. \u00a0Take a moment and listen &#8211;
