TWIN SISTERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"pp-slideshow-1413124386\" class=\"pp-slideshow-placeholder pp-gallery-placeholder slideshow-1413124386 mceItem\" style=\"display: none;\" src=\"https:\/\/focusonthebackroads.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/p4\/placeholders\/slideshow-placeholder-1413124386.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>Twin Sisters<\/strong><\/em>, Texas is located in southern Blanco County. \u00a0It is named after a pair of hills that can be seen for miles that served as a landmark for early settlers in the area. \u00a0In 1854, Joel Cherry homesteaded in the area. \u00a0Cherry was from Tennessee (we Texans consider Tennessee a very important ally &#8211; REMEMBER THE ALAMO). \u00a0In 1856 settlers petitioned and received a post office. \u00a0By the end of the 1850&#8217;s, Twin Sisters was\u00a0a major German settlement.<\/p>\n<p>Max Krueger settled in <em><strong>Twin Sisters<\/strong><\/em> in 1875. \u00a0Krueger owned a grist mill, cotton gin, and one of the three general stores in the town. \u00a0In addition to these business ventures he served as the post master and the justice of peace. \u00a0In 1869 \u00a0he opened a dance hall and bowling alley, \u00a0 these became the entertainment center for the folks in <em><strong>Twin Sisters<\/strong><\/em> and the surrounding area. \u00a0Max named these Twin Sisters Hall and Bowling Alley. \u00a0A major two year drought hit the area in 1894 forcing many of the local famers and ranchers into bankruptcy. \u00a0Krueger had to sell out because of the hard economic times. \u00a0In 1951 the Twin Sisters Post Office closed and moved to near by Blanco, Texas. \u00a0In 1967 the bowling alley burned to the ground.<\/p>\n<p>Through these many years, the <em><strong>Twin Sisters Dance Hall<\/strong><\/em> remains. \u00a0This hall is considered the oldest Dance Hall in Texas. \u00a0 \u00a0<em><strong>Twin Sisters Dance Hall<\/strong> <\/em>\u00a0continues to host a public dance every first Saturday of each month as well as special events through the year. \u00a0These dances feature live music and ALL ARE INVITED!<\/p>\n<p>I recently had the pleasure of attending one of these monthly dances at <em><strong>Twin Sisters.<\/strong><\/em> \u00a0It was a great experience &#8211;
